11 months 24 days and 10 hours…but who’s counting?

18 May

So it’s been less than a year since I’ve graduated from college, but it honestly feels like forever.

Graduation is always bittersweet

I recently visited my alma mater. It was both lovely and slightly anxiety inducing. I was able to visit with some old friends, but I inevitably had to answer the same question I dodged when I graduated last year, “so what are doing now?” I am lucky to have work, but in a way it seemed like I had romanticized graduation. I saw it as a finish line, but it was really just the start of the race and I seemed to have tripped on my shoelaces just as the starter gun was going off. I do have to remind myself that that many people feel the same way, full time work is very hard to come by right now. Unfortunately that does not ease the sting of job rejection, no matter how many times it happens.

I was reminded that its a numbers game, I just have to keep applying and will be rewarded. I hope that proves true for many reasons. One of which because I found myself asking my younger friends the very question I hated so much last year and seeing the same panic that had framed my face. I would like to be able to tell them that their perseverance pays off. Which I’m sure it will, sooner or later.
